Antique silver plate covered butter dish. A beautiful Art Nouveau butter dish by Homan Mfg. Company. The covered butter is quadruple plate and dates from the early 1900's in an Art Nouveau style with a floral repousse' pattern along the body of the round dish extending down to the curved feet. It also has small extensions on one side to hold a master butter knife and a decorative finial. The piece is monogrammed in an Old English letter that I believe it is a G.
The bottom of the dishhas the Homan Mfg. Company hallmark with an anchor in a circle. It is also marked Quadruple plate Made in USA.
The inside of the dish usually has a metal plate to hold the butter. The plate is missing but someone placed a porcelain plate to replace it. The small porcelain plate was in the piece when I received it. I have used a small crystal bowl also inside a similar butter dish. I am pricing the item accordingly.
The piece does have a little wear on the inside, but no silver loss on the outside.
There is a little loss of silver on the inside of the piece and a little on the rim, which is understandable with the age of the piece.
